Wisdom Award won at Auroville Film Festival 2022

The Wisdom award under the category of Auroville films at the 2022 Auroville Film Festival is given to ‘Conversations on Death’ with Aurovilians by Serena Aurora and Danielle de Diesbach.

A thought-provoking exposition, the film reflects on the meaning of death, and ‘death in Auroville’. A wide gamut of ideas is brought forth including the conquest of death “where each cell of our body will have to become conscious.” Pithy words by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother punctuate Danielle de Diesbach’s exploration as she sets out to interview Aurovillians, young and old.

The perspectives of the interviewees along with the meditative words and music offer an understanding that frees you from the fear and apprehension of death. “The material or physical causes of death are not its sole or its true cause: its true inmost reason is the spiritual necessity for the evolution of a new being.” The film is aurally and visually orchestrated with substance and meaning, drawing ‘Death’, typically considered a ‘dark’ subject, into the light.

Three films coming out of Auroville’s Citizens Assembly, a research project to experiment with new models for community explorations and discussions. The aim of the pilot is to produce a water vision for Auroville and develop recommendations for its implementation. As in many places in the world Auroville faces a water shortage in coming years, so this is a critical community issue.

Auroville Radio

Aurora's Eye
For Serena to be in Auroville it is a privilege. She “stumble” upon it on her journey all over the planet looking for intentional communities, searching for alternative, more truer lifestyle. And every community she has stopped, she would made a video which was donated to the members of it. And how she ended here, in Auroville? As Serena laugh it off – the decision was made for her, she just went with the flow…. and The Mother Dream was also hers. And now she make herself rather busy capturing “Glimpses of Auroville”, where she is documenting, creating a bridge, creating highlights as we are quite fast approaching 50th anniversary. (and by the way, the OutreachMedia is in need of video makers, photographers, writers for the occasion).

Amongst so many other things, Serena recently initiate RAK – Random Act of Kindness, whereby group of people visit services and units and spread hugs, joy, smiles…..
